Office 2003 Upgrade makes my XP system crash

After upgarding on line, system crashes and reboots at every screen saver
instance or monitor-off power option. Desktop wallpaper also goes away.
Have tried on 3 separate occassions -- have disabled all programs running in
background. Note: recently upgraded to XP Service Pack 2.
