Office 2003 Upgrade on XP Office 97 on another computer?

I'm planning to install an Office 2003 Professional
Edition Upgrade on a new Windows XP computer. To qualify
for the upgrade, I have a working Office 97 on an old
Window 95 computer. I'd really like to not have to
install the Office 97 onto the WinXP if I don't have to.

The Win95 is networked (mapped as drive P) to the new
WinXP, and there is also a complete non-workable copy of
the Win95 C drive (including Office 97) on the WinXP H:
drive partition. (Copied over as a precaution after I
fried my extra hard drive.) I'm not sure if the extra
copy of Office 97 that would be on this drive would help
or hurt. Does anyone know if this setup will work for the
upgrade install?

I plan to launch the update from my E: CD R/W. Would it
be a good idea to put in my Office97 disk into the D: DVD
CD ROM also on the WinXP (making sure to cancel the
AutoStart that would try and setup Office97)?

I understand that with the Office 2000 upgrades the
upgrade will say something like "can't find qualifying
product", and at that point apparently one can take out
the new Office (in my case 2003) disk, and replace it
with the Office 97 disk, then type something, and then
replace the Office 2003 Disk. But in one newsgroup post I
heard that this won't work with Office 2003?

I've heard of enough problems, that I'd like to do it
right the 1st time.
Any suggestions? Reply to group or email.
