Office 2003 v. Vista Basic

I already own a copy of Office 2003 (for XP). I bought a new machine that
has Office 2007 and operates Vista Home Basic. The trial is set to expire,
and I would like to know if I can use/install my "2003", instead of
converting the "2007" trial.

Also, does anyone know how much the conversion costs, because if it is not
as much as buying "off the shelf"-maybe the above question is not as
important.

Office 2003 is compatible with Vista.
Your copy of Office 2003 can be installed in your new computer provided it
is a retail purchase and not a OEM version limited to the computer it was
pre-installed. Do the following:
Uninstall the Office 2007 trial version that came with your computer.
Install your Office 2003. If your Office 2003 is a upgrade version you
will need a qualifying product. The qualifying product does not need to be
installed. You just need to insert the qualifying product installation CD
when asked for verification.
Move your data files from your old computer to your new one. Consider
using a flash drive.
Uninstall your Office 2003 from your old computer unless you want to
keep it and met the EULA requirements for mult-computer installations.

The is no cost to do the above unless you have and upgrade version and do
not have a qualifying product.

Office 2003 works fine on Vista.

As for purchasing the trial version, it could end up costing you more than
if you went to your favorite retail store and bought a copy. Last I checked,
the initial cost was the same but then you had to pay extra if you wanted
the installation CD and/or purchase a "lock box" which allows you to
download the software again or obtain your license key. With a retail
version the installation media and product key comes in a box that you can
store yourself for safe keeping without paying extra. If the trial version
you have installed is an OEM trial version then the cost may be cheaper but
you still need to pay extra for your installation media if you want it and
you're tied to the OEM for support.
