office 2003 will no topen some office 2000 ppt and DOC's

I need some assistance with office 2003. What I am
finding out is that some word and power point documents
created in 2000 won,t open in 2003. In fact it crashes
office all together. This has happened on several
upgraded from 2000 to XP systems with office 2003. All
are newer Dells
