This is new Dell 670 Workstation running XP Pro. We had Office 2003
installed by Dell. Programs like Word, Excel, Publisher, etc cannot open
files on a shared drive of another PC on my network. Windows Explorer can
copy/paste the file from the network drive to the local drive and they can
then be opened. If we use Explorer and click on a .Doc file name we want to
open from the shared drive, we get a message from Office 2003 Word that "the
document name or path is not valid"
We do not have any Norton products installed.
An interesting observation: We have another networked PC running XP Home and
Office 2000. The Office 2000 can open those same files from that shared
drive that Office 2003 cannot.
