Office 2003 won't accept serial number when installing on second

When I try to install office 2003 on my new computer, I get a message telling
me that the serial number is invalid (same serial number I entered to install
it on my old computer).

Help! Am I only allowed to install Office once? Is there someplace on my
old computer I can verify the serial number? Each individual program has its
own serial number, not the main number used in installation. I'm at a loss
-- but never had this problem before with any other program.

Thanks in advance!

Did your copy of Office 2003 come preinstalled on your old computer?
If so, it's probably OEM, meaning that in can only be installed on
that PC. Read the EULA.

No, not OEM. I upgraded from Microsoft Works to Office Standard Edition. Am
I still only allowed to install it on one PC ever??

No, but you must make sure the Product Key is
for Microsoft Office 2003 and you are reading it
and imputing it correctly.

If your new computer came with a trial version of Office 2003
preinstalled on the hard drive by the computer manufacturer, then
did you uninstall the trial version before installing your
upgrade version of Office 2003? See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836178 "You receive an
'invalid product key' error message when you start an Office 2003
program after you install Office Professional Edition 2003".

The End User License Agreement for a retail-box copy of the
Standard, Professional, and Small Business Editions of Office
2003 allows for installation on one desktop and one laptop (not
two desktops, not two laptops).
