office 2003 won't update

i previously tried the outlook spam update, got "update cannot be applied".
today i tried the kb830000 update. same thing: "update cannot be applied".
update appears to run for a while then i get the error message. i have tried
updating from the microsoft update site, and by downloading the files, both
full files and client version.

any ideas what might help get updates to install?

.
I am also having no luck installing the Office 2003
updates. Particularly the Word 2003 and the Critical for
2003. I get a simple message that the updates
installation was unsucessful.

Looks like updates for Office 2003 are a common problem.

I've not been able to update. I can download, but then
during installation I get told that the update can't
find .cab files, so the whole process stops.

Anyone else with the same problem, that may have now been
fixed, please let me know.

Deni :)

Same problem here! I installed 2003 as an upgrade to Office XP, and
think that might be reason I can't update. (It loads, but won't
install.) At least that seems to be a common thread that others are
having with the same updating difficulties. Of course, that doesn't
help solve the problem, but it might be a clue!

I'll be doing a complete clean Windows XP and Office install soon. It
will be interesting to see if Office 2003 updates then.

I found the missing .cab file that was stopping updates.
It's a hidden file. Since enabling show all hidden files
via Windows Explorer, the downloads have installed fine.

As suggested by Microsoft's online assistance, I also
emptied out my temp folder, temp internet files & offline
content and emptied the recycle bin.

Try this before wiping drives and programs etc.

Good luck!

i would up uninstalling of03, reinstalling. then updates worked. perhaps i
deleted something during a reg cleaning, or the first install was defective,
or...?
