Office 2003 Word files not saving

D

DJ

I recently bought a new HP PC for my Mom and it came loaded with Windows
Vista. I finally got around to installing my version of Office 2003, but
whenever she tries to open a Word .doc file from her Hotmail, or even save
one from Word, it saves to her Documents as a DOC file (not Word, the little
"W" logo doesn't show up), and she is unable to open it in Word. It goes
straight to a WordPad and is spewed out in what looks like gobbledy-gook.

Does anyone know if there is a compatibility issue with Office 2003 and
Vista? Or is it something else entirely?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

DJ

But can she start Word and then open the documents using File/Open? If so
then try the following;

- Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.
