Firstly I’m not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but I look
every were and this is the only board I could find that is related to Office.

After I have worked on a document in Ms Word 2003 and saved it and the I try
to open the same document it give me an file conversion window and when I
pres on OK it gives me gibberish but if go thru windows explorer and click
twice on the document it opens it just fine how do I solve this problem? I’m
running windows XP professional service pack 2 with office 2003 sp 2

Unfortunately that did not work I’ve also noticed that I have to set it to
“all files†to see the word documents if it is on “All Word Documents†it
doesn’t see the document it happened with a test doc I typed saved it and try
to open it and problem, I also re installed office but problem is still there.

Thanks Eric

This is obviously a registration problem with Windows and Detect and Repair
usually resolves the issue. Try the following: from Start, Run, type in

winword /r

and press Enter. Nothing will seem to happen but it should reregister Word
correctly. Test again now.

Thanks Terry

I’m beginning to think this is virus related reason for this is that the
original document gets hidden and there are a another doc with the same name
created but with a .scr extension the thing is you have to look at the file
from a another pc that is able to view the file extension and hidden files
then f-secure picks up a virus but the info on the wires that f-secure is
giving doesn’t match the symptoms the pc with the problem doesn’t wane see
hidden files ore extensions and its antivirus doesn’t pick anything up even
if the virus patterns is up to date.

But thanks for the effort I’m feeling like a num nut for wasting you time
