Office 2003

This is a copy of a letter I have tried several times to
send to Microsoft. Every try has been fruitless. Have
reseived the letter back with a note that the Support I
am trying to contact is no longer avaliable. when trying
to go to the Microsoft site & try to contact Tech Support
from there is a joke. No matter what one tries to do &
the information inserted, it is never quite right. I have
been trying now for over a week & still no success. Am in
hopes someone here can assist me.
Thank you. (e-mail address removed) or a43 (e-mail address removed)

Sirs:
I am writing for help with Windows Office 2003. I bought
a new computer on 4-19-2004. It is a Compaq Presario
SN1030NX & has Windows XP. It came with Office 2003
already on it and I did not get a disk for this program.
I have medical information on WORD & am unable to access
this information unless I insert a disk. I DO NOT have
nor did I receive one with the computer. I tried to use
ADOBE & received a message to insert the 2003 disk---
again I do not have a disk. I was able to use ADOBE after
everal tries.
I have talked to HP & they informed me they could not
help me & I needed to contact Microsoft. I called
Microsoft (apparently overseas) and was informed it would
cost me $400 to purchase a disk to use 2003 or I could
buy a disk for $200 to delete 2003, then I could download
my Office 97 & use it. Was also informed that the Office
97 might by-pass or override the 2003---it didn't. I told
them I could not afford to buy the disk---either one, as
am on disability & need to save before I can buy anything
extra. They could not/would not tell me what to do other
than buying the program & transferred me to the
Purchasing Dept. I do not understand why I need to buy a
disk to use a program that came with this computer. If I
do need a disk, why did I not receive one?
I need the WORD & EXEL programs, but can not access
either one.
Would/Could you please tell me how to access Office 2003,
or how I can delete it and download Office 97? I know
Office 97 is no longer supported, but I can use it on my
XP for now. I just need assistance in, either accessing
2003 or deleting it and downloading my Office 97. I hope
you will give me the information I need to solve this
problem. By the way, going to Add & Remove does not work
either, unless I have a disk.
As I said earlier, I have a Compaq Presario SR1030NX,
with Cable ISP. I don't know what other information you
need about my computer or my Cable Internet Provider,
however, if you need more information I will send you
what you need.
Thank you for your time & consideration & will await you
reply.
Sincerely,
Joyce Smith

Hi, Joyce. You most likely have a Trial Version of Office 2003. A
number of computer manufacturers are preinstalling the Trial Version on
new computers. The Trial Version is designed to work for about a month,
then it stops working. After that, you have to buy and install a full
version of Office 2003 if you want to continue to use it.

Hi Joyce,

I am interested in hearing more about the issue you are encountering
however this really isn't a topic that belongs in the public
newsgroups since it does contain personal information.

Please note I do not work for Microsoft but this issue, customers who
do not receive their installation media from the computer
manufacturer, is an area I have currently taken an interest in and
have been pursuing.

I would like you to email me at (e-mail address removed) and provide more
information on your situation such as did you purchase Office 2003
with your computer or was it a trial version, and please provide the
exact error messages you are encountering.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
