Office 2003

I have been using MS Office 2000 Professional on my PC
for many years, and I love it. I recently purchased a
laptop which has MS Standard Edition 2003 for Students
and Teachers. My trial period is just about up and I
would like to have the MS 2003 version. However, is it
best for me to purchase the 2003 Professional version,
uninstall the Standard Edition that is one the laptop
now, and install the new Professional version.

If so, would I lose, not so much my data files, my
outlook mail and contacts in this process?

My deadline is 9/30/04 and I'm ready to do what is the
smartest move. Thank you.

This is an issue I've been wondering about. How does one
move from a S&E version to a fully-licensed version? So far
I've been unable to get a straight answer from anyone.

That's an easy question. Use the WinXP "Files and Settings
transfer Wizard" to save your files and settings and the
Office "Save Office Settings Wizard" to save your Office
settings in a safe place. To be on the safe side, you should
also copy your "My Documents" folder entirely and any
personalized Office templates etc you have created to a safe
place as well.

This way you'll be able to import/restore your files and
settings anytime you have to reinstall Office from scratch.

I have heard, but can't publicly confirm that you may get a better deal
buying online or instore rather than take up the offer that the trial
version will present to you..

Re.. the other, you could try saving and/or exporting your work to a safe
place.. another drive or cd would be a good place to start..

Your data and documents are not touched if you uninstall and install a
newer/better version. If you do backup your outlook.pst file, if it is not
found during the upgrade, use File->Open, not import to reconnect your .pst
file.

I addition, the following may help you decide:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/howtobuy/default.mspx .

The Office 2003 Professional has applications and capabilities that are not
included in the Standard edition.
