Office 2003 ?

Charles Eaves

I own a copy of Office 2003 Student and Teachers edition using Xp home
edition SP2.
It is installed on a desktop.
Office 2003 S&T has been activated by the internet.
When I go into Word/ help/ I can a series of numbers next to the product id.
I am wanting to install the same configuration of Office 2003 S&T on my
laptop which my son uses for school and his mother also goes to school at
the local college.
Installaton went fine.
The laptop doesn't have internet access at this time or will it for a while.
The same configuration of Office 2003 S&T that was installed on the desktop
will be installed on the laptop i.e. everything but Outlook.
The laptop has Xp professional SP2.
Can I use the product id number that is on the desktop Office 2003 S&T and
activate the Office 2003 S&T laptop copy?
I am the owner of both computers.
Thanks

I am confused.
I had to leave for a few days and I called a Microsoft number while away to
try to find an answer.
I was transferred to an English speaking gentleman after connecting to
Microsoft by phone.
He essentially told me that I needed the laptop with Office 2003 S&T
installed in it and to call back when I did get a hold of the laptop.
He told me that the product id # that is for the Microsoft office 2003 S&T
on the desktop is not necessarily the same product id # for the laptop S&T
office edition 2003.
He told me call back when I get the laptop, open up office and to give him
the serial numbers that are located in office, probably in the help section.
I will get the laptop back in a few days for a short while.
Can I use the product id # on the desktop to activate office 2003 S&T on the
laptop?
Thanks

NOT the numbers in the Help section. It's the numbers on the orange sticker
on your CD case. You can also run Belarc Advisor and get the product key
from that. The numbers are easier to read in that report and it's a nice
document to keep handy anyway.

Forgive me for the stupid reply here but I am new to computers.
If I go into say "word",help, activate.
Using the wizard, do I just plug in the product key info from the orange
sticker to activate my office 2003 S&t.
Why do you need to Microsoft to activate Office 2003 S&T.
The laptop doesn't have internet access but the desktop does.
Confused.
Thanks

Yes, that is the procedure.

There is a telephone option if no Internet access is available.

Activation came about because so many people were "borrowing" a friend's CD
or downloading it from sites lie Kazaa, etc. Once again, the honest person
has to pay the price for thieves.
