Office 2004 and Intel iMac running Tiger or Leopard

I am using Office 2004 very satisfactorily on G4's running Panther. My
Excel analyses,
including macros, translate perfectly to clients' Windows versions.

I was planning on a new iMac running either Tiger or Leopard.

The horror stories about Office 2008 and the Intel-based iMac
dissuaded me from going
to the Microsoft upgrade, but recent messages about Office 2004 and
Tiger on Intel iMacs
also are disturbing.

Does Office 2004 run faster / more efficiently on an Intel based iMac
with Leopard
than it apparently does with Tiger?

How would the speed compare to that achieved under G4 and Panther?

I seem to have few choices, none too good, if I get a new iMac.

Well, if you have VBA macros that are needed, then there is NO choice. You
must stay with 2004. VBA is simply not available with 2008. Excel 2008 does
run natively on Intel machines and is noticeably "snappier" for me. Excel
2004 on an Intel machine is running via the Rosetta translator which adds
overhead and reduces speed.

Yup, if you have macros that you use, stick with 2004. 2004 also loads a lot faster then the 2008 version. (now thats from the double click and the time I can actually *do* something, a splash screen or the sheet showing, but still 'stuck' isn't loaded to me)

I can't say how much faster 2008 is, since its unusable/useless to me without macros. But I never thought it ran slow. Loading time is so much more noticeable then a calc, or switching to a different sheet. (.002 seconds vs .004 seconds, like I care)

I am SO sorry I bought it!

Are you using Office 2004 with Leopard or Tiger on an Intel Mac?

Does Office 2004 still perform with close to the alacrity it has on
the G4 and Panther?

If so, that is VERY good news and I'll spend the Office 2008 $ on
something else!

Thanks
