Office 2004 Crashes

I had no problem installing Office 2004 (Student-Teacher
Edition) in my Mac, but then only the application Entourage
works. The applications Word, PowerPoint and Excel always
crash after the corresponding splash screen.

Anyone knows what's going on?

Thank in advance.

Try Repairing Permissions (with Apple's Disk Utility) BEFORE and AFTER any
system upgrade as well as BEFORE and AFTER installing any software that uses
an installer.

I know it sounds like OS X voodoo, and it is; but it fixes and prevents a
bunch of problems.

Additionally, if your machine does not run 24/7 so that it runs the daily,
weekly and monthly Cron Scripts in the middle of the night as intended, run
Cocktail (shareware) as well.

Have you got file vault turned on? Some reports indicate there _may_ be
problems with that in some installations.

I had the exact same problem as you (and others in this group). I spent
countless hours reading and trying all of the suggestions, including wiping
out everything and reinstalling (which did not help). Finally, it came down to
a corrupted font in the Classic System Folder. My problem fonts were
TFArdent.suit and TFMaltbyAntique.suit. I have no idea where they came
from, but once I disabled them using Font Bonk, all Office programs now
open.

I first disabled all fonts, opened Office OK. Then, enabled Computer fonts,
opened Office OK. Then, enabled User fonts, opened Office OK, then
enabled Classic fonts, OFFICE WOULD NOT OPEN. So, I disabled them again
and enabled them in small groups (A's, B's, etc.) until I found the bad font.

Hope this helps. People who post here are great. Thanks for all of the
suggestions. I managed to tell Microsoft and Apple off as they would not
help me.
