I just bought a new Mac & Office 2004 for my son on January 5. Installed
the software on Jan 14. Now I see that there is a new version available.
No one told us that something new was coming out this quickly. Is there
an upgrade or trade up option available?
Microsoft has publicized this for several months. The buzz hasn't been
quiet at all. I'm surprised our retailer didn't mention anything to you.
Assuming you live within the U.S. or Canada...
Because you purchased within the Super Suite Deal promotion period you
will actually be able to take advantage of the best deal available. You
probably purchased Office 2004 Student & Teacher since this is for your
son (school age?) and that's enough to qualify you for a free upgrade
(for the nominal price of shipping) to Office 2008 Media Edition. See
this link for details

Otherwise, Microsoft does offer a "technology guarantee" that says if
you purchased Office 2004 within a few months of Office 2008 shipping
then you're eligible for a free upgrade (for the nominal price of
shipping). See this link for details

Hope this helps!
