Office 2004 Performance and Support Files

I have a couple questions regarding Office 2004:

-Word v.X often cannot display characters fast enough to keep up with
my typing, particularly in the Page Layout view. Has this been fixed
in Office 2004?

-Office v.X applications seem to load the CPU rather significantly
even when idle. Is this issue resolved?

-Office v.X places it's support files in ~/Users/Home/Documents. Have
these support files moved to the ~/Users/Home/Library folder?

I was happy to discover Office 2004 supports UNICODE and long file
names. If these other issues are resolved as well, I think I will
upgrade.

Thanks in advance.

I don't do a lot of complex document in work in Word so I don't see this
problem as greatly as some of the others, but I will say that performance in
Word as a whole is quite improved.

I haven't really noticed any change in that area, though I can't say I
noticed the issue much in the first place.

The Microsoft User Data folder is still stored in the Documents folder. If
you want to see it moved, be sure to send the feature request to Microsoft.

In my experience, Word04 is somewhat snappier than Word v.X. The real
problem, however, is that you're experiencing that in v.X - I have
rarely, if ever, had that problem, even with relatively large (500 page)
documents using a G4/450 machine. Have you updated to at least Office
10.1.4? How large are your documents? Page Layout view will always be
inherently slower than Normal view, because it's having to recalculate
the page metrics every time text is added or deleted.

You can also get better performance from Page Layout view by turning off
Live Word Count in Preferences.

Haven't seen this as a problem in 04.

The MUD folder is still in the Documents folder. However, you can
specify which folder to use for many of these documents using
Preferences/File Locations... for Word, Preferences/General for XL,
etc., just as you can in X.

You can also manually move the MUD folder to ~/Library/Application
Support and leave an alias to it in Documents. I've tried it with both
Word and XL, and it works fine. I haven't tried it with Entourage, yet,
though, so I don't know if it's a general solution.

It works fine in Entourage too.
