Office 2004 Prof.Ed.update problem

I cannot install the update program. It stops shortly after having
begun. It keeps searching the HD for installed components and then
waits. I have to turn off the computer otherwise I can't do anything
at all. I have already installed office a second time but that didn't
help.
Who knows this problem, or rather, knows what can be done about it?
Thanks,
Cees

I would try a couple of things in your case
- repair permissions n the drive using DIsk Utility
- unmount network volumes (maybe the iDisk if you have one) as the
updaters tend to look in all available locations and it takes forever on
remote volumes. I've seen that before. It took forever (maybe 15
minutes) but eventually made it :)

I checked and repaired file permissions, tried to upgrade afterwards,
but after half an hour of waiting for 'Items to be installed: 91' I
gave up. So what next?

I have MacOSX 10.3.8

Sorry I took so long to post back :-( I had accidently marked the
message as read :-\

Well by now the current version is 10.3.9 ;-)

The only thing that remains that could explain this would be a corrupted
preference file.
You should go in the ~/Library/Preferences folder (the one in your user
account) and look for .plist files that contain "com.microsoft" in their
name. Try toge the com.MindVision.InstallerVISE.plist file as well and
move them all to another location (eg: a folder on the Desktop).
Try installing again and hopefully this time it will go through :-(

If it still doesn't work, you can try updating again from a differnt
user account that has admin privileges.

hello Corentin,
I followed your suggestions and unfortunately nothing seemed to work.
i even tried to update as a different user, but then, Office wasn't
avai;able for me and I couldn't launch the update program.
But anyway, thanks for your help and time. I keep trying and will also
check the other questios posed in this forum.

Regards,

One more suggestion:
delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.autoupdate.plist
(the one in your user folder), log out, log back in and try again. It
might do the trick :-\
