Office 2004 slowness

I have a G4 1 Ghz 30gb 256k iBook with Office 2004 installed. When opening or using applications such as MS Word I have noticed that simple operations [opening documents] takes an inordinately long period of time to execute. Paint has actually dried while opening a document [I can attest to that]. Is there any reason for this?

Try the troubleshooting methods here;
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

If it is always the same document, try the suggestions for Document
corruption. If the doc is based on a template that is not on your computer,
that could also account for it, Word is searching for the template. If you
have networks open, Word may also be searching those.

Slowness on launch (as opposed to opening a doc) might suggest a Font
problem, although I believe I've also heard reports that it has to do with
Word pulling Contacts info from Entourage.
