When I try to launch finder to open a saved document in word 2004,
excel 2004 or powerpoint 2004, Finder takes a ling time to launch. Any
ideas why this is happening?

Hi Chetan,

You mean the File | Open dialog takes a long time to come up? (I'm not sure
whether Open/Save dialogs are actually the Finder) Or are you actually
switching over to the Finder, and it takes a long time to let you do
anything?

Do you have an iDisk from .mac, by any chance? I think iDisk has been
connected to slow Open/Save dialogs.

Are the Open/Save dialogs any faster in non-MS programs?

What version of the OS?

1. Yes it is the Open/Save dialog that takes ages to load...
2. Yes.. I am using iDisk on my PB...
3. Yes the Open/Save Dialogs are much faster on other non-MS Office
programs..
3. I am on OSX 10.4.4

If you have .Mac, it's caused by the iDisk being mounted on the desktop.
It's a bug in the system that also affects other apps (but Office seems
to really take the hit from it). Open/save dialogs are dealt with by the
system.

Also I have the sync on my iDisk set to manual rather than automatic.

I'm not sure it matters. What matters is to have the iDisk on the
desktop regardless of the way you sync.
