Office 2004 Test Drive Available

Warning: Do NOT let it expire if you decide not to buy it :) Run the
Uninstall utility that comes with it if you decide not to purchase.

We had some unhappy people last version because they allowed the Test Drive
to expire: if you do that, it becomes difficult to remove it and you may get
problems installing or re-installing your old version.

Just a word to the wise :)

And in a pathetic attempt to save a thousand questions here next month, NO
there is no way to "trick" the trial version into continuing to operate so
you can avoid paying for the full version :) Believe me, the copy
protection is pretty resistant: as far as I know, it cannot be broken :)

Cheers

John,

Do you have to uninstall Office X before installing the demo? You seem
to imply so.

Well I bit the bullet. I ordered from MacWarehouse/CDW. last night Office2004
update. I even asked for next day shipping. dspite my having an account with
MacWarehouse for years, I just received a phone call to verify I was who I said I
was from CDW. I even my username and password from McaWarehouse, I used a credit
card I used for years. Its the first time I've ever been question about I am who I am.

I as expecting to install tonight now I guess I'll have to wait another day for an
overnight delivery.

Strange experience

Hi Steve,

No. He doesn't imply that at all. What he says is that it is advisable
to uninstall the Test Drive, using its own uninstaller, before it expires.

Yes, you can run both versions side-by-side and they will operate
independently.

And no, you do not have to uninstall Office X to install the test drive.

However, I am confident after using Office 2004 for a few months now that
you will be most unwilling to go back to Office X after using Office 2004
for a day or two. I could suggest that there is no point in fiddling around
with the Test Drive: just go out and buy the upgrade.

There is utterly no reason to keep Office X hanging around: the improvements
in the next version are so large and wide-ranging. However, when you
install Office 2004, Entourage will upgrade its database to a new faster and
stronger format. If you think you might ever have to go back, keep the old
version, because Office X cannot read the new database at all.

Hope this helps

Beth,

I guess this is the phrase that threw me: "You may get problems
installing or re-installing your old version." Emphasis on the word
"re-installing." But thanks for the tip.
