Office 2004: Upgrade on OSX from OS9

carl.pindar

We have office 2004 installed and I have just had a machine go down.
We were unable to reinstall Tiger so purchased Leopard and installed.
As our copies are upgrades we need access to previous installation.
When we originally migrated from office 98 we had then classic
environment but now we don't.

Any pointers would be welcomed.

Thanks

Install Office 2004 and upgrade (IMPORTANT)
Move the entire Microsoft User Data folder from the older computer to the
Documents folder.
When you launch Entourage the first time, you will be in your old Identity
ready to go.

Don't have access to that as disk wiped prior to Leopard install as
old user as left so didn't need access to his user data.
Have blank machine, no backup and want to do a fresh install for new
user.
Have OS9 Office 98 CD but installer did not see the excel application
when I copied it over.

If you don't have any data to move over, you just install and update. If you
don't have classic you can't install Office 98. Why would you want the older
version if you have Office 2004?

Sorry but this is really confusing.

I have a copy of Office 2004 which is an upgrade version.
I only have Office 98 OS9 CD
When I run the installer it's looking for a previous version on the
system but as this has been wiped it can't find anything to upgrade.
Hope that helps

Just insert the CD and point to it when the installer asks for the previous
version. It does not have to be installed.

Thanks for letting us know. Now that you are installed, be sure you have a
good backup strategy. It's not if but when...

Entourage and Time-Machine-like backup (creates chronological backup of
Identity can be used by both Tiger and Leopard allowing you to roll back to
previous dated backups.

Alternative method to use Entourage and Time Machine (does a once a day or
whatever time period you select) This quits Entourage and the Microsoft
Database daemon allowing for once a day backup into Time Machine.
