Office 2004 w/ Snow Leopard-Sync crashing & events massduplicating

I'm still using Office 2004 and updated to Snow Leopard (did install
Rosetta).

Microsoft Sync has crashed at least a dozen times in the last 1 1/2 since
the update.

My Entourage events are duplicating at a speedy rate. I have a special view
that shows all events without categories--as these are the likely
duplicates. I always give events a category.

At this point, I have 1118 duplicates. Once I delete some, they replicate
again.

I've had this happen before--but it's almost always on a major update such
as this.

You might need to reset Sync Services.

To get rid of duplicates use one of the scripts on this page.

Tip: Give every event a category even if it's a generic category like
"current". Any duplicated event will have the category "none" assigned. You
can sort by "none" and delete. You do have to clean up dupes with a script
first.

Use the custom views to view all events to assign a category.

Do be aware that support for Office 2004 is slated to end in October. I
doubt Microsoft has tested or even has any intention of testing Office
2004 with Snow Leopard. While the suite should still work as individual
applications, those parts that rely on services provided by the Mac OS,
such as syncing, may be buggy and will probably never be fixed.

I will say again, as I have said directly to MS, that I am disappointed and
angry at their decision to stop supporting the version of Office for Mac
that includes VBA before providing a replacement. I use VBA in legacy
spreadsheets, and many users need VBA for compatibility with Office for Win
users.

If Office 2004 does not work satisfactorily with Snow Leopard, I will stop
using Office altogether and not buy Office 2008, 2010, or any other version.

Most users are not reporting problems with 04 under Snow Leopard. Most of
the issues seemed to be resolved after tinkering with their Snow Leopard
install.

One user reported this fix, but the usual font fixes should apply.

Remove the FontCacheTool file from Supported Files folder in Office within
the Microsoft Office 2004 folder.

From most reports I've seen on Snow Leopard, it's the individual's install
that's at fault. I'm not convinced that the upgrade over Leopard is the best
upgrade path especially for those that are not experienced. A lot of people
have tinkered with their systems like removing languages, moving or renaming
files.

Before anyone upgrades, they need to take some time to read articles and
experiences others are having. Having a backup is critical when making a
major change like this. Don't forget this is 10.6.0. There are bound to be
bugs.
