OFFICE 2004 won't install properly on my new MacBook

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I have tried to install my student version of MS Office 2004 for Mac on my new MacBook {after my previous powerbook was stolen} several and although it appears to install correctly, when I try to open the application I get an error message saying that Word/Powerpoint, etc. cannot load the shared libraries and that they may have been moved from their original location or that Office needs to be reinstalled to ensure the files are installed correctly. Even after reinstalling the same thing happens. I installed this exact disc for my previous computer and it worked perfectly. Is this because Office 2004 is incompatible with leopard?? Or any other suggestions as to why this is happening??
thanks!

Office 2004 is compatible with Leopard. Did you install Office in your root
Application folder?

First try downloading the combo updater from Apple and run it again rather
than using Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially problem-causing
files.

Mac OS X 10.5.4 Combo Update
(For both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs )
<http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1054comboupdate.html>

Also see this Microsoft KB:

You receive a "Shared library" error message when you start Office for Mac
programs <http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=842646> This is an old error
(2006) so I suspect the combo might be the fix for you.

The next step would be to use "Remove Office" and re-install and update
Office. If this does not work, you will need to do an Archive & Install of
the OS.
