Office 2007 apps won't start after installing converters

Nick Payne

Just downloaded and installed the converters in O2007Cnv.exe. No errors
indicated in the installation, but now I can't get any Office 2007 apps to
start.

Outlook gives the error msg: "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot
initialize Microsoft Office shared utilities. Restart your computer or
reinstall Microsoft Office Outlook".

Word gives the error: "There is not enough memory or disk space to run
Word".

Excel gives the error: "Not enough memory to run Microsoft Office Excel.
Please close other applications and try again".

A reboot hasn't fixed things, so I guess the next thing is to try a
reinstall. With 3Gb RAM and over 100Gb free disk space I don't think memory
or disk space is actually the problem.

Well, a "repair" install didn't fix it, so I decided to stop wasting time
and reverted to Office 2003.

Hi Nick,

Did you also have MS Office 2003 on this same PC? The converters you installed are for use with older (pre 2007) versions of MS
Office to allow them to open and save 2007 file formats.

Did you have MS Office 2007 Beta 2 or had you applied the 2007 Beta2 Technical Refresh Patch updates (B2TR) for each 2007 product
you had installed?

What version of Windows are you using? If Vista, what build?

Office 2003 was not installed prior to Office 2007. If the converters are
not intended for installation into Office 2007 then the web page from where
I downloaded them, and to which I was taken by a link from Office 2007, is
extremely ambiguous. Furthermore, if they're only intended for use with
earlier versions of Office, why did the converters install on a machine on
which I had never installed any earlier version of Office. This was an
installation of Vista RC2 with Office 2007, with Office installed off the
Office 2007 beta 2 DVD and no subsequent updates.
