Office 2007 Beta 2 installation problem

I am having an MS Office 2007 Beta installation problem

The installation disk I am using is from the Action Pack I received in July.
It is labeled: “Microsoft Office System Beta 2 kit 2007.â€

I am installing on an x40 ThinkPad that is less than a year old and running
Windows XP Professional, SP@2.

I chose the option of installing in place of previous versions of Office.
(Office 2003 Professional previously installed)

The error message I get is:
“Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (beta) encountered an error during
setup. Error 1714 Setup cannot remove the older version of Microsoft Office
Professional 2007 (Beta)â€

I also tried uninstalling Office 2003. When I do that I get this error
message:
“The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the
source exists and that you can access it.â€

How can I resolve this problem?

It sounds like the Local Installation Source (LIS) for Office 2003 was
moved or deleted. The LIS is used instead of the installation CD if
you want to add/remove features or remove Office. Do you recall
deleting or moving a folder called "Msocache"? In any event, you'll
need to obtain the Local Installation Source Tool which will help you
correct the issue:

Once you correct the LIS issue then you should be able to install the
Office 2007 beta.

Thanks for the help, Beth
I downloaded the Local Installation Source tool, installed and ran it. But,
having done that, I continue to get the "installation source is not avaialbe"
message. Do you have other ideas on how to resolve this?

Did you use the Delete and disable LIS option?

If so, you may want to try repairing the Office 2003 installation
before installing the beta.

Well, at this point I have tried all the combinations, and continue to get
the message. As I recall, my first try was to enable -- was prompted for the
source, entered D:\ (the CD drive) and watched the chacing process.
Then I tried disabling, followed by enabling again. All will the same results.

Any further ideas?

First search for a folder called MsoCache. If it isn't found then
obtain the following utility and use it to remove only the reference
to Office.

Once that is complete then you'll need to reinstall Office to point
the Windows Installer to your installation CD. Note that the Office
installation files will still be present. All the utility does is
remove Windows Installer entries in the Registry that point to missing
or corrupt files.

Could you tell us if you are still encountering this issue or if you
have the problem resolved?

Thanks!
