Office 2007 Beta

I have a verified version of Office professional plus 2007 (beta), which has
been activated for some months. Today as I was working on word, a message
tells me that my beta software has expired and that I should remove the beta
software from the control panel. I removed it and now have installed
Office 2003, but i cannot open any of the documents that i saved under 2007
version. How can open or convert my documents?

I also experienced the same loss of functionality (without warning) from the
Beta version of Office 2007. I am anxious to see answer to your question, and
also mine as follows: How should I save Outlook emails generated using the
2007 beta for availability once I install 2003 Office Professional?

Jason G

I have also fallen Victim to this horrible scenario . I archived all of my
emails from the 2007 BETA. Outlook 2003 does not open the archive saying that
the version is incompatible. I tried installing the new 2007 demo, it
doesn't have outlook in it to even view the archive. I spent nearly all day
today on the phone with Microsoft, I don't think Microsoft support people
were even aware the 2007 trial doesn't have Outlook in it. I was told that
the solution is on help on this website but I haven't found it. I am
desperate for a fix as well. How will we convert these files back to usable
files that can be viewed by 2003 especially my archive that has over a years
worth of emails and contacts in it? Seems like a trick to force you to the
new system when it is up, this doesn't help me in the meantime. Microsoft,
what is going on?

Microsoft sent out an email about two weeks ago forewarning you that the
beta was about to expire. I know because I got the email because I had
download the beta myself.

It's been widely known that the beta was going to expire on January 31 and
that if you downloaded the beta refresh, you would be given an extension.
Either way it was a time-bombed version. Eventually you were going to have
to pay the piper or use something else.

(It's also been widely known that Office 2003 users cannot open a 2007 file.
You will have to download the trial version, convert all of your 2007 files,
and then decide for yourself what your next step is going to be.)

There is an Outlook 2007 but you can only run one version at a time. If you
have an older version of Outlook, you need to uninstall it before you can
install Outlook 2007. This point has been emphasized many times in these
newsgroups.

I uninstalled the Beta version. Documents went to rtf format and than I
reinstalled my Office 2003 and the files automatically converted to that
format.

My problem is with all of my emails in Outlook 2007. I cannot seem to find
them in Outlook Express.

So, do I uninstall Outlook Express and reinstall Outlook 2007?
Hope this helps,
Linda

I forgot to say that I had saved all my docs in Compatability Mode while
using the Beta 2007 version cause I knew it would go away and I thought maybe
I could open if I did this.

Hope this clarifies.

Outlook and Outlook Express are two totally different programs. You can only use Outlook data in Outlook.

I received an email saying this:

"Don't forget!
To install the 2007 release (either the trial or a purchased copy), you will
need to uninstall the Beta before you install the full version.

Also, you will need to save all of your documents as Microsoft Office
97-2003 documents — due to changes in the file format, documents created
using the Beta cannot be opened by the 2007 Microsoft Office system."

This is stupid. Surely we must be able to at least open the beta files once
we have bought the final version?

Office 2007 beta 2 [a test version] used an early version of the file format and it's not always compatible. If you update the Beta
2 copy with the Beta 2 Technical Refresh patches (B2TR) and save the files you should be okay in the release version of Office 2007,
as will files saved in the Office 2007 legacy file formats. For the B2TR update (which extends the beta expiration to 31Mar2007)
search on
B2TR at http://microsoft.com/downloads
