Office 2007 Custom UI Editor xml has disappeared.

I had entered some xml to customise the ribbon on a macro and it was working
fine. FOr a coule of days. I had just been working on a macro in the
document and closed it. WHen I reopened it the customisations weren't there.
I went to the Custom UI editor and all my xml had disappeared!!!! And I
haven't got a back up...

Literally one minute the new tab I created was there and then it was not!

Any ideas.

I can retype the xml - but I can't imagine why it disappeared it could
happen again. Has it somehow be overwritten? Where extly is it stored?

Thanks
Lou

The XML is stored in the docm "zip package" in a separate XML file. You'll find
a detailed description of it here:

My best guess would be that you inadvertently saved the file to a different
file format (such as the old *.doc file format).

Thanks Cindy for you response.

I found out about the structure of the zip file trying to solve this - the
question's quite old so I have done a lot of searching myself!

When I look the .dotm all the other compentes that should be under the
templatename.dotm.zip are there except the customui file.

Its as though the file was deleted. I am wondering if Word crashed and the
recovery process - did not recover the customui file?

If I could engineer a crash I could test this.

Thanks Lou
