Office 2007 - disapearance of the "recent files" in all office pro

I have been running Office 2007 for a couple of years and recently all the
products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc) have stopped showing the recently
opened files after I close them.

The recent files build up dusing the day - even if I close the program - but
then the list gets erased "overnight".

The only thing I can think of is that I have recently installed Carbonite
remote backup. Does anyone have any idea if this is what's erasing the list
when the backup kicks in?

Muddled, confuddled and upset...
