Office 2007 does not connect to internet

I just upgraded from Office 2000 to Office 2007. All of the programs,
Outlook, Word, Xcel, etc open correctly. However, when I click the Help
button, the Help Screen tells me that I am offline. Outlook will not check
email also. If I boot the computer in safe mode with network support, the
Help will go online, and Outlook will check email. I am running XP Pro. Any
help will be appreciated.

Hi Bill,

On the bottom right corner of the Help screen in Office 2007 apps can you click the Offline status button and change the choice from
- Show content only from this computer
to
- Show content from Office Online?

Bob,
Thanks for the reply! When I click the "Show content from Office Online", I
get the same offline message and the check mark goes back to "Show content
only from this computer"

I am not sure how this forum works. I think I replied, but i am not sure. I
tried checking "Show content only from this computer", but it always reverts
back to "Show content only from this computer" and still says "Offline"

Thanks again for the reply Bob. Are you talking about using Regedit? If so,
I couldn't find those particular keys.

Hi Bill,

Assuming this isn't a work computer where they've blocked that feature, or a user account that can't write to the registry, you may
want to try

Office Button=>Word Options=>Trust Center=>Trust Center Settings
Privacy Options

although a reflection of the help setting, it may make a difference.

Bob, thanks for hanging in there with me. The trust center options were set
correctly to search the internet.

Hi Bill,

You may want to check the settings for your firewall to see if CLView.exe (the Office 2007 help viewer app) is being allowed
through.

Bob,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I finally figured out what was causing my
problem. I had removed Norton Internet Security using the Control Panel, Add
Remove Programs prior to intalling Office 2007. This does not completely
remove the program. I found and used the Norton Removal Tool and everything
works as expected now.

Once againg, thank you for your time and effort.
