Just posting this as an FYI.
Problem: If you create an admin install point for Office 2007 (in our
case, Professional Plus), and you run the setup.exe program with the /
admin switch to start the Office Customization Wizard, you may get
this error. You may also have an error where if you run Office 2007
setup.exe, setup crashes.
Cause: In our case, it was due to files in the Updates folder. Any
patches you place in the updates folder will install when a particular
product is first installed, for example Office Pro Plus or Office
Visio. You need to extract the files from the downloaded .EXE patch
file, and place the files into the Updates folder. Setup.exe will then
attempt to install those patches (MSP files).
Resolution: Do not leave extraneous files in the Updates folder. In
our case, removing the extra files included in these office patches,
such as XML, CIF and any other files besides the MSP files and text
files, fixed the problem.
Another tip, when you extract the patches, you can rename the MSP
file. So you can have excel.msp, excel2.msp, and so on, in the Updates
folder. I beleive the patches install in alphabetical order, so I
recommend keeping the naming convention in order they were downloaded.
Hope this helps.
