Office 2007 Home & Student how to enable display of recent docs

I cannot see recent documents listed when I seek to open a document in Office
2007 Home & Student edition. When I try to modify the setting to display
recent documents, there is an information note that my administrator has
"disabled this command through group policy." Since I am the only user and
effectively the administrator, this is not valid. How can I get around this
issue?
