Office 2007 - Keep user interface alone

Gary

Have you seen the new Office 2007 “Promotion Materialsâ€
Microsoft quote:
Get back up to speed with Word 2007
Have you heard the word? Learn the best ways to use the new Ribbon, and get
a handle on finding popular commands. (2007 Microsoft Office system beta 2
required.)

Find Excel 2007 commands fast
Wondering where your favorite Excel 2003 commands are located in the new
Excel 2007 interface?
Microsoft end quote<

Get back up to speed with? Get a handle on finding popular commands? Find
Excel 2007 commands fast? Wondering where your favorite Excel 2003 commands
are located ? Wondering?

I'm wondering which part of this is supposed to attract me to Office 2007?
Why in the world would you CHANGE where commands are located – are you out of
your minds? Are the products not supposed to make us MORE productive, not
LESS? Can you imagine Lexus' new car - gas pedal on the door, steering on
the floor, push button shifting on the dash - terrific, let's reinvent the
wheel!

You know what? Many people like the new interface (me among them) and many
do not. I will presume to say that this will play out in sales of Office
2007.

For those who want the old unintuitive interface, you have an option - don't
buy this version. For those of us who do like this interface and the
ability to find things with less than 5 clicks, or if at all in previous
versions, we will probably buy this version.

If you want to stay with the past, then do so. If you want to move forward,
then get used to growing pains. I bet when you first started walking, you
fell many times but still got back up and kept trying. And you are
probably now walking with some success and few stumbles and falls.

Hi Gary,

It's certainly a big and somewhat risky change <g>.
You'll find information on the data gathering and decision process for creating the new 2007 Office system user interface (UI) on
the MS Office UI team blog at
http://blogs.msdn.com/jensenh
and can also participate in the feedback discussions there.

If you're testing the 2007 Office system products be sure to also use the feedback tool from the link below to send your comments
directly to the MS Office team as well.
