office 2007 multilanguage pack activate proofing

W

Willem Overbeeke

I am a new Office 2007 user (English), and also obtained the multilanguage
pack to add Dutch and German as proofing languages, on top of English, French
and Spanish (which came with the main product).

However, the installation procedure does not present me with any option to
add the proofing part of these languages, nor did I find a way to activate
them afterwards.

Trying to switch to these languagues when proofing a document, the program
in question complains it has not been installed, and suggest I buy and/or
install the necessary software (again).

My reseller (DELL) does not have an answer to the problem.

Any help or suggestion would be highly appreciated.

NB I used to run Office 2000 with the corresponding proofing tools, and
never had a similar problem

Further to my original question I now browsed a bit in the "office general
questions"discussion group" (i.e. this one). In a post on March 16 on a
similar issue I found Microsoft's statement that single language "non English
proofing tools" would be rolled out as of the end of March, and that the
multilanguage version would only become available end of June.

Can anybody (preferably at Microsoft) confirm that this is true, and then
also explain why I had to pay quite a substantial amount for a multilanguage
pack that, according to the write-up, had these tools included, but
otherwise, is of no use to me at all ?

Dear Patrick,

Thanks for your quick response. The CD I received was marked "End Item Part
No. 79H-00100"and had a bar code X12-91066. I also downloaded the pack
online. The CD had a used space of 358MB ("full" according to the
properties); the downloaded file, still in ZIP-format, was 335,633 KB in size.

I look forward to your suggestions

When you go into \Progam Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12
Which numbered folders do you have there? When you open each of them, do
you have more than a few items in each folder? With numbered I mean e.g.
1033 or 1031
When you go into \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\PROOF
Do you have any files listed there that seem to indicate any other than
the three languages? What about the numbered folders there?

Hi Patrick,

In response to your two latest posts:

Under OFFICE12 I have 3 numbered folders: 1033, 1036 and 3082. 1033 holds
lots of files and a number of subfolders; 1036 only holds MSO.ACL and
WWASUM.DLL; the same two files figure under 3082.

In PROOF I only have references to EN (AM and BR), ES and FR. Here 1033
seems to be dedicated to EN, 1036 to FR and 3082 to ES.

Two your other query. I am indeed running OFFICE 2007 (Professional PLUS) on
a pristine VISTA system, so no trace of OFFICE 2003 at all

Thanks for your trouble on my behalf

From your description, it is pretty obvious that the German & Dutch
language packs are not installed. German would add a 1031 folder to the
OFFICE12 folder that contains the same amount of items as the 1033
folder there. I have the German one installed and that's what I see
there.

Rather strange. According to Office Online
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suites/HA102113691033.aspx) the
multi-language pack hasn't been released yet (in stores June 2007). I
tried finding a single language pack to download on Office Online, but
wasn't successful.
Curiously when I type the CD number you provided into Google, I can find
retailers that are offering the pack right now.

I took a look on MSDN subscriber downloads as well. The multi language
pack (which will contain 37 languages) is not available for download
there. That is a pretty strong indication that the pack has not been
released yet.
However, I can find a lot of individual single language packs there (for
one language only). The German language pack is a 358 MB download, the
Dutch one 479 MB. The X12- number you specified however is nowhere to be
found in the filename of either one.

How much did you pay for this?
What is the exact filename of the pack you downloaded? Can you see the
individual MSI files when you look at the ZIP file and if yes, what are
their names?

and Spanish (which came with the main product).

Hi Willem,

There seems to be some mystery associated with this CD. What the CD that
you have actually does is a bit unclear.
The actual multi-language pack containing something like 30+ different
languages is not due out until the summer. Right now there are only
individual languages available in the form of single language packs. You
have to find the languages you need and install the individual SLKs for
them.

Just to confirm one thing: You are trying to use the proofing languages
in Office 2007 applications and not in 2003 or earlier ones?

I downloaded from the official Microsoft site (I don't recall its precise
location), but both the CD and the download produced identical results, i.e.
NO languages except for English, Spanish and French.

I tried both standard and customl, during the latter choosing for a full
disk based installation of all components. I also tried to find other files
on the CD that might point to languiage proofing, but to no avail

:

Do you have the link or address where you downloaded it from?
Did you do a custom install or just installed via typical?

Dear Patrick,

Thanks for your quick response. The CD I received was marked "End Item Part
No. 79H-00100"and had a bar code X12-91066. I also downloaded the pack
online. The CD had a used space of 358MB ("full" according to the
properties); the downloaded file, still in ZIP-format, was 335,633 KB in size.

I look forward to your suggestions

:

What pack did you get exactly? How large was the file for one pack? Did
you get it online?

Further to my original question I now browsed a bit in the "office general
questions"discussion group" (i.e. this one). In a post on March 16 on a
similar issue I found Microsoft's statement that single language "non English
proofing tools" would be rolled out as of the end of March, and that the
multilanguage version would only become available end of June.

Can anybody (preferably at Microsoft) confirm that this is true, and then
also explain why I had to pay quite a substantial amount for a multilanguage
pack that, according to the write-up, had these tools included, but
otherwise, is of no use to me at all ?
