Office 2007 & Office 2003 Questions

I just purchased Office 2007 and I would like to install it on my main PC
(running XP-Professional) to replace Office 2003. I am worried about loosing
the saved email in Outlook (there are 3 users set up on this PC, all with
separate email). How should I proceed? Should I wait to remove 2003 until
after 2007 is installed? Will the installation of 2007 keep all the email
for the three users?

I would then like to install my copy of Office 2003 onto my laptop after I
have 2007 up and running on my main PC and have removed 2003. Will I have
any problems doing this since this not the computer it was originally
installed on? Will 2003 work with Vista?

I appreciate any help regarding these matters.

Outlook 2003 has to be uninstalled before OL2007 will install.
If you insert Office2007 cd the installer will give you an option to
upgrade, ie remove old 2003 first
Data is not lost during either an upgrade, or uninstall, but as allways,
data backup is wise

You would only be able to install 2003 on a different PC if it was a retail
copy & not OEM
2003 works on Vista

1st question, make sure that you have a backup of the Outlook .pst file.

Still 1st question. What version of Office 07 did you purchase, retail,
OEM, upgrade and/or Pro, Standard, Home and Student, etc.? If it is a
retail, non-oem, version you may install it on your desktop and also your
laptop. If it is OEM it can be installed on the desktop OR laptop but not
both.

2nd question. If your copy of Office 2003 came installed on the desktop it
is probably an OEM version (check the 03 CD that came with the computer and
see if it says anything about OEM or installed on a new computer.... If so
it is an OEM version and is tied to the first computer it was installed on,
therefore, it wouldn't be "legal" to install it on your laptop. 2003 works
well with Vista.

Hope these help, let us know and feel free to ask any further questions.

Thank you, DL and LVTravel!

To answer your questions, LV Travel, the Office 07 version is
Professional/Academic Use/Retail. I bought it through an academic software
company on the internet. Does this mean I can install this on both my
desktop AND my laptop? If the answer is yes, then I don't need to worry
about installing my version of Office 03 on my laptop. (If the answer is no,
my Office 03 is 'retail' so I guess I can install that as plan 'B'.)

Since this is an academic purchase of the software you will need to read the
EULA that comes with that version of software. It will either be listed on
the packaging that came with the CD/DVD or it can be found on the CD/DVD
itself.

Once '07 is installed you can also find out the exact license terms by
clicking Office button, program name Options, Resources, About, View
software license terms.

After looking at the packaging more carefully, I did notice on the comparison
chart they have for all the different versions of Office 07 that the Office
'Home and Student' version can be installed on up to 3 computers, but it does
not indicate this for the Office 'Professional' version. After I do the
first install, I will take your advice and read the EULA.

Thanks again!
