Office 2007 -- Oh MY Goodness!!

Bought the retail Office 2007 Professional and bought 2007 One Note to go
with it. What a terrible mistake.
First: Office 2007 modifies the registry and the /windows/system32/ files
and doesn't correct the changes if uninstalled. (I went back to Office 2003
and spent almost an hour correcting "leave behinds" from Office 2007.
Second: Office 2007 runs approximately 8-10 times slower than Office 2003.
In fact, for the first time in 4 years I am actually impressed by Office 2003
speed.
Lastly: The forced install of Windows Search in order to use Office 2007 is
painful. Windows Search will slow your computer down a bunch in all programs.

Come On Big Guy; Let's get this right for all of us that put our hard earned
money out for the "Gold Standard"

Hmmm. Not my experience here......

I am sorry you had a bad experience. It may well be that 2003 may be
better for you. You might need a hardware upgrade to fully appreciate
Office 2007. On the other hand many people have upgraded to 2007 and have
been pleased with it. The level of difficulty of properly upgrading does
vary from instillation to instillation.

I suspect that if the install was completed and tweaked properly and you
give it enough time to properly learn the best way of using 2007, you too
would have been happy with it.

I have observed the same kind of responses with upgrades since DOS 3.1.

I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Vista. It was a little easier
for me since it was a new machine, but I had a lot of adjusting to do to get
it back up to the same functional level I had with XP. Now I am happy it is
better for me and I am still learning new advantages to it. It came with a
trial version of Office 2007. I played with it, but since it was not the
professional version and I still have needs for some of the other programs,
like Access, I chose not to upgrade to the new office suite. While it
appeared that the new version would be equal to the serviceability I had
with XP (other than the professional programs) and I expect I might have
learned to like it better.

Better check the OneNote requirements: Windows Search Must be installed to
install OneNote.

You must install it for Outlook as well.

Hmm, interesting! My new laptop came with the trial version of Office 2007 on
it. After trying it for almost two months, for a variety of reasons, I
decided Office 2007 wasn't worth it. So, I uninstalled Office 2007 and
reinstalled Office 2003. I did not experience any of the "leave-behind"
issues you've mentioned, though.
