I am running a brand new laptop with Vista Home Premium and install Office
Pro Plus 2007 (Full retail).

I can start Outlook once after install, but after that it reports cannot
find MSVCR80.dll when launched from the Quick Launch button. Also if I launch
it from the Start menu, it continually brings up the "Configure Office"
screen and wants to reboot afterwords. If I cancel out of everything and
reboot, it will start once off the Start Menu then that's it.

I have checked the forums and this issue was reported under Office 2007 Beta
2 but never answered by Microsoft.

It actually was answered many times, by MVPs.

It most likely is being caused by an addin that is putting an
outlook.exe.manifest file in the outlook.exe installation folder. That will
cause that error. In fact, now that the release version of Outlook puts a
file with that name there if your addin is overwriting that file it would
cause Outlook to want to re-run the installer. Check to see which addins you
are running and disable them all to see if the problem goes away. If it does
re-enable them one at a time until you find the culprit.

Most addins should have been updated by now, mine were updated to stop doing
that back in beta 1 days when the problem first surfaced.

I have this same issue. What add-ins are you referring to ? Outlook add-ins
?? If so, how can I remove them if can't start Outlook ?
Thanks

The only known cause for this (and it was only seen in the beta to my
knowledge) is when an outlook.manifest.exe file has been placed by a COM
addin in the folder where outlook.exe is installed.

This was recommended for a long time to add Windows XP theming to addins
mostly written using VB6. Outlook 2007 broke that method.

Now, MS puts that file there in the outlook.exe folder and if it's not their
file but some other one things get broken and Outlook can't start.

If you have that file in your outlook.exe folder open it in Notepad and make
sure it has an entry in there with this text "Microsoft.VC80.CRT". If that's
in there it's the MS file and should be OK. If something else is there you
need to remove it and replace it with the original MS file.

Other than that bug in the beta that I found and diagnosed I haven't seen
any mentions of this. Other than the response that I found the problem and
the cause I haven't seen anything from MS on this either.

Thanks for the info. I have done a complete restore of my Vista install but
am a little hesitant to install Office 2007 again. Is Office 2003 compatable
??

Ken,

I have struck this problem on an ACER PC running Vista Home Premium and
Office 2007. Have disabled Outlook Add Ins and removd Nortons. Repaired and
reinstalled Office and the problem is still there.

What next?

Steve

That's all the information we have on the problem.

It's been reported to MS many times and so far we haven't heard back of any
resolutions. I'd suggest opening a case with MS support on this, the more
cases they have the more pressure to find and fix the problem.

Not sure I know how to open a case with MS. I have been told it is a waste of
time.
This is a strange one Ken. I have been searching the web for two weeks now
and while I see many, many references to this problem so far no resolution.
