Office 2007 Professional Installation

I bought the Office Professional Upgrade to upgrade from Microsoft Works. I
had tried it out with a trial version downloaded from Microsoft. I was using
Office Professional 97 prior to upgrading and I uninstalled Works. The
upgrade checks for a version of works and installs. However, the upgrade
does not uninstall 97.

When I open the add and remove to uninstall office 97 I see the Office
Professional Trial version, no Office Professional 2007 which is running. I
don't see Office 97. I have two problems; 1 - Office 97 is taking up a lot
of space for nothing and I can't uninstall it. The CD's wont even read in my
computer. 2 - If I buy a new hard drive so I can clean up my system I won't
have Microsoft Works for the Office 2007 to look for when installing.

How do I get these two problems solved? I have asked others this question
and have been pointed to KB articles that have nothing to do with the
queston. I hope one of you gurus can help. Thanks for taking the time.

I would uninstall everything (Office and Works) first. Then install Office
2007. When it asks you for the qualifying product, insert the Works disk and
point to it.

Hi Scott,

Office 97 used an older setup program than the one used by Office 2000 and up. You can remove Office 97 manually if it's no longer
listed in Add/Remove programs in the Windows control panel from the information in this article and the ones it links to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254250/en-us?FR=1
If the amount of space Office 97 takes up is a concern then having a new hard drive, perhaps in addition to rather than replacing
the current one could be something worth considering for both speed/performance characteristics and efficiency as well as less worry
:)

As JoAnn mentioned, you can uninstall the Office 2007 trial editions, then restart the PC before installing anything new. If you
don't have the MS Works CDs then you may need to get one at some point so you won't lose the ability to be able to reinstall the
Office 2007 upgrade package at a later date if necessary.

As with any big change in your computer always back up your files first, just in case :)

Works came with the laptop as part of the pre-installed software, therefore
no discs. As I said Office 97 wants disc 1 to uninstall and every time I put
disc 1 in the cd drive the uninstall doesn't recognize it. This really
baffles me. If I ever successfully uninstall Works then as far as I know I
will never be able to install or reinstall office 2007.

Hi Scott,

Is it Works that won't uninstall or Office 97? If Office 97 did you follow the links in the article in the last post? It leads to a
method and a utility for removing Office 97 without the CD.
