Office 2007 Professional Upgrade

I just purchased a new computer today, as my last one just suffered a
motherboard crash. When I picked out the desktop at Best Buy that I wanted I
immediately went searching for a new version of Office, well the only full
versions on the shelf were the student ones. Which I would have bought but I
wanted more, so I picked up the Office 2007 Professional Upgrade version. On
the side it said that the software will install if you have Microsoft works
v. 6-10, microsoft works suite, microsoft office program or suite or any
microsoft office xp suite. I noticed my new computer came with works so I
figured this would suffice and when I asked the tech people they confirmed my
hunch. Now when I try to load it, it says that "Setup can't find an earlier
version of Office on your computer" And asks me to locate it.
What should I do next?

Did your new desktop come with a Works CD? I got a Dell for Christmas and
it came with 8.5. That should be enough to satisfy Office Setup. Is Works
actually installed on the computer? You may have to browse to the
executable or the directory it is in. If the program is installed you can
right click, Properties on the Works icon in the Start menu to find that
information.

Cheers,

Earle

Works did come pre loaded, I have tried browsing to the files, but it keeps
telling me the same thing. I think I am only directing it to the shortcut
rather than its actual location.
Thanks.
Any other suggestions?

I believe you will find an update patch for Works on the MS site that
addresses this problem.
Maybe some one will post the link

I had this problem and sat on hold for an hour at MS. This is the result:
Go to this web site. Download the file. It's about 250 MB. Run it.
www.officepro2007.notlong.com
It's a "clean" version of the upgrade product that will just ask you for
your new product code. You should be fine.

The Office CD for your old computer will work even if it is a OEM or upgrade
version. Just insert in drive when asked for qualifying product.
