Office 2007 programs will not open from Vista Start menu

D

Doug-WI

I've lost the ability to open any Office 2007 programs from the Vista Start
Menu.
This issue occurred 'soon' after installing a MSWorks 8.5 update
(KB933828.msp). While I suspect the install is related...I can not
definitively say this is the connection.

Pinned Office start menu programs do not open, Office programs under 'All
Programs' do not open and programs under start menu searches do not open.

Clicking program icons simply has no response. No spinner (Vista hourglass),
no error message, no performance slow down, simply dead links. The proporties
of all these icons do show the correct paths.

This issue is only with the Start menu, Outlook opens with no issue from my
task bar.

Running Office Diagnostic return no problems.

All other program on my Start menu open normally.

Currently the only way to open an Office 2007 program is to dig into the C
drive and open from the exe file in the office folder.

I have successfully pinned these exe to the Start Menu for my most used
programs. But digging into the C drive anytime I need any other Office
program will become a big pain.

Any help to restore Start menu functionality for Office 2007 would be
appreciated.

Hi, Doug,

Have you tried to delete the pinned shortcuts (Remove from this list) and
re-pin them?

I have this problem as well. It worked at first but after deleting some users
the link has gone. The icons have also gone from the Start menu and from
Office documents in Windows Explorer.

Can anyone point me in the directon of a cure please?

I have the same problem on a very similar system. Has anyone found a
solution? There seems to be nothing about it on Microsoft "support".

I have the same issue also!

If I switch the menu back to classic then it all works OK.

Also if i turn off UAC it all works OK. So UAC is off until we get it
working.

I had this problem too - came up with suitable answer THAT WORKS!!!

1) Remove all Office 2007 items pinned to Start menu.

2) Open "Computer" click on "C:" drive and open "Program Files"

3) Scroll down to "Microsoft Office" and OPEN

4) Open the folder holding all the generic office items (on my syste
this is named "Office12" - this is the MS name version)

5) Find each Office program you need on the pinned menu - an
individually right-click and click "Pin to Start menu".
EXCEL will be the first one??? N.B. Only pin those with the MS Offic
symbol for that program, i.e. EXCEL = green document with an 'X' on
each should be an "Application" ENSURE U DON'T OPEN THE ONE WITH TH
COLOURFUL WINDOWS ICON - won't matter but you'll have to repeat th
correct process!
Make sure the following names are correct: (all capitals)
- EXCEL
- POWERPNT
- WINWORD

(they're the only ones I need!)

Then go to Start menu - click on each and check works. They do fo
me!

Then you can right-click each and Rename, to your hearts content!!!

They should each now open!

happiness all around???
