And pray tell how they will achieve this nirvana state if they continue to
use the old interface? Osmosis?

If they won't have an option for the old toolbar, then maybe they could have
an option to resize the whole thing. The main complaint I hear is that it
takes up to much real estate. If you could shrink it about 25% to about the
same size as the toolbars in previous Office versions, I'd be a happy man!

Hi darkrats,

You can minimize the ribbon to a single line when not using it (Ctrl+F1 or double clicking on a tab) and according to Microsoft's
designers (http://blogs.msdn.com/jensenh ) the ribbon is said to be about the same size as the old menus and toolbars, just visually
larger appearing because of the icon sizes.

Double-click a tab or use CTRL-F1. Then it'll minimize and you can use
the tabs as sort of menus. Double-click again or use CTRL-F1 to revert
out of that mode.
The real estate issue is actually subjective. 2007 uses less space in
the status area of the window and more on the top. The real estate
available for your document is about the same as in 2003, but it just
looks more due to it all being used on the top.

I don't suppose there's any way to reduce the size of the toolbar icons
then? That would be a very nice tweak to know about.
