Office 2007 ribbons - hide/view

My college just switched to Office 2007. The ribbons take up too much
screenspace for me, so I hid them. But now I need to click on each one to
reveal the icons therein. Is it possible to hover the mouse over the tab
name and reveal the icons that way? It would be helpful while scanning the
ribbons in search of the elusive correct command.

Thanks,
Larry

There is nothing in Office 2007 that does what you're asking. There might be
an add-on that does it. In the meantime, you might find Ctrl+F1 to be a
handy way to toggle the ribbon on/off. (The ToggleRibbon command can be
assigned to a different keystroke, if Ctrl+F1 isn't convenient, and/or can
be placed onto the Quick Access Toolbar.)

Thanks, Herb. Maybe I'll just leave the ribbons in full view. < sigh >

I just noticed something else related to hidden ribbons - apparently, after
unhiding a ribbon, one can only click a command once and then the ribbon
disappears. Usually this is OK, but for things like changing font size (the
A-up arrow) it takes a few clicks to get the right look. Is this a fixable
situation? (PS - I won't hold my breath :)

Fixable? Actually, this *is* the fixed version. The idea was that it would
auto-rehide once you'd picked your command. In early betas, it didn't do
that.

Each person's dream is someone else's dread, I guess.

But, you might give Ctrl+F1 a try. Personally, I find it quite handy for
quickly turning the ribbon on/off.

Put the most used function on the quick access toolbar. Just right click
on the icon and select add to quick access toolbar. That way the most
commonly used function are visible even if the ribbon is hidden.
