Office 2007 Setup will not continue

Dr. Technical

I downloaded the Office 2007 Professional ISO disc image (twice) and burned
multiple discs with the images. However, when I begin the setup program,
after the initial splash screen, I get a "Setup Error" window which states
"Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not
available. Run Setup again from the original source disc or download
location."

Can anyone think of a reason why the ISO disc image file would not contain
all the required files? If, by some chance, there is a file missing, is
there a log file someplace that would give me a clue which file the error
message is referring to?

Thanks for any help!!

What version of Windows and what software did you use to create the CD? There have been issues with some of the 3rd party burners.
It's not clear if it's the burner software or the DVD burner needing updating (in my case it was the latter).

One of the workarounds is to use ISOBuster to do the extract or to mount the image as a drive and install from there.

I'm running the RTM Vista Ultimate from MSDN, and using the ISO Image burning
capabilities of the latest Nero Ultimate v7.5.7.0. I've tried burning the
ISO image both from Windows XP Pro SP2, and from Vista Ultimate with the same
result.

I did download and install the Virtual Daemon v4.08 ISO image mounting
utility, then tried to install from there. This time a different error,
telling me that it could not upgrade from an older version. I did have the
Office 2007 Beta installed, but uninstalled it before attempting the RTM
Office 2007 install.

Are there some registry hacks/deletions that need to be made to get my
machine to realize that it doesn't have the Beta installed anymore? There's
a disquieting message about uninstalling the prior Beta release and
"associated technologies". What is THAT supposed to mean? Other than the
Office 2007 Beta in the Add/Remove Programs, what else should I be looking
for?

Hi D.T.,

There are two different parts then going on. All MS Office 2007 related beta products, including all of the apps, server products,
XPS/PDF add-in, Expression Web, VSTO beta (and other items with '2007' in the title in Add/Remove Programs) do need to be removed to
install the release edition of the 2007 Office system products.

The Nero software is one that has been giving folks fits when trying to work with the ISO, but apparently, mostly on Vista, so it
may be an incompatability with a Vista setting and Nero, or ...

Folks have reported that ISOBuster does seem to work fairly reliably to get around the installation issues.

If you go up to the thread
dated 19 Nov, you'll
se a whole long thread devoted to this. To cut to the quick, the guilty
party seems to be Nero v7.5 doesn't burn CDRs correctly under Vista - though
it works correctly under XP. It looks as though Nero/Vista is not
controlling the speed of the burn correctly which corrupts some files.

If you manually set the burn to a low speed, it will work.
