office 2007 shortcuts don't work

I'm using Vista Home Premium and Office 2007 Enterprise. After I have opened
word for example, a shortcut is made and added next to recent programs used.
However it will not work. I click on it and nothing happens. If I drag the
shortcut to the desktop it works fine but if I drag it back again it stops
working

Any ideas?

Are you talking about the Word entry in the Recently Used list of the Start
Menu? If so, go to Word Options, Resources tab and run Office Diagnostics.

Yes Terry it's the "Word" entry in the recently used list. I've tried excel
and publisher and the same thing happens. I ran the diagnostics as you
suggested but this found no problems. I'm at a loss as as I said earlier if I
drag the shortcut to desktop it works fine.

Any more ideas?

Dave.

Is this using a laptop with a touchpad or is this a desktop PC using a
standard mouse? Does it happen with any other applications (Excel, WordPad)?
It sounds more like a Windows/Driver issue.

Yes Terry,
I've also tried excel and publisher and they are exactly the same. I'm using
a desktop PC and mouse. I'm starting to get the feeling that it's a Vista
issue and not Office. The reason for this is I've noticed another "link" not
working. If I right click on Computer then open properties there is a link
for Device Manger in the top left corner. This also doesn't work. I have all
updates for Windows and Office.

I suggest posting this in he Vista Newsgroup as it is almost certainly not a
Word problem. The Vista guys are more likely to have experience of these
symptoms.
