Office 2007 sp1 constantly configuring on Vista

History:
Started with Office 2003 on Vista.
Loaded Office 2007 - worked great.
Loaded SP1 - suddenly I can't open an office program without it going
through the configuration process - after sitting there for a minute or two,
it opens the files. Also, none of the files have the extension association.
Uninstalled Office 2003
Uninstalled Office 2007
Re-installed Office 2007 without SP1 - still happening

What's up? Anyone have an idea
