XP SP2 + O2007 Small Business Edition.

Open Word, Save As, no dialogue box appears.

I have just uninstalled/re-installed Office and the problem did not exhibit
until I installed SP1.

SP1 was installed under control of WSUS from the domain server and appears
to have completed successfully.

crossposting to .misc, .officeupdate doesn't appear to get a lot of traffic.

Two things that have worked for other users:
1. If Windows Desktop Search is installed on the client, remove it.
2. If CA eTrust Antivirus is installed on the server, turn off
"Protect Network Drives" under Realtime Options | Advanced.

WDS was one of my early suspects, it was removed.

We're using Trend rather than CA and I believe network scanning is disabled,
also the problem occurs with AV removed (I was clutching at straws :).

Thanks for your thoughts.

I've actually dumped it on MS, created an 'incident', so far no joy however.

Two more things that might work:
1. Disable offline files (see
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307853 "How to use offline files in
Windows XP"), reboot, and then reenable offline files.
2. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=934160 "Error message in
Windows Vista when you try to rename a new subfolder in a shared folder

I appear to have nailed this down to a conflict with Tortoise CVS. Actually,
I can't take credit, they got a new machine and the user noticed that as
soon as he installed Tortoise the problem occured, I've since done some
testing.

XP+Office2007+Tortoise = OK, apply Office SP1 breaks it.
XP+Office2007+SP1 = OK, add Tortoise CVS, broken.

Is anyone using XP+Office2007+SP1+Tortoise ?

Can anyone see why? Yes, Tortoise integrates into explorer and in the error
state Office is pulling up an explorer window (the 'browse to location'
dialogue).

I've not yet been able to find anything on the Tortoise discussions.
