OFFICE 2007 - TURN OFF COMPATIBILITY CHECKER

P

pauld

Has anybody figured out a way to turn Compatibility Checker permanently ?

I use and create a lot of files in 97-2003 mode so that my friends can use
what I send them (they don't have Office 2007)

The problem is I un-check the "Run Compatibility Checker", make changes, and
exit out of Excel or PowerPoint.

A few hours later I need to come back and do another edit and the "Run
Compatibility Checker" is re-checked...so I have to again un-check it....or
go though the extra step of clicking "Continue" each time I want to Save.

Is there a way to turn off Compatibility Checker permanently ?

One way around it is to . . . . Go to . . . Customize Quick Access Toolbar>
More Commands> Save> and choose 'Excel 97-2003 Woorkbook' from the drop down
menu. Hope this is what you are looking for.

I don't see what you're talking about here.

Ken,

Thanks for the notice of this problem.

I did this and the problem re-appears when I exit the file and then re-open
it.

It is particularly bothersome with PowerPoint. I do a lot of org charts,
save as PPT 2003-07 but still get that pesky Compatibility Checker message
each time I reopen and try to save a change.

There just doesn't seem to be a way to shut the Compatibility Checker off
permanently.

Thanks, Beth.

I'll give it a try.

Now, has anyone figured out how to do this for PowerPoint?

Well, after installing the add in I still get the checker when saving Excel
files.

What does it take to get Microsoft to address this? Does anyone know?

I query data from a network resource then export it in Excel format to an
html file (only option). I then do a Save As an xls file on my local system.
I uncheck the checkbox in the checker and the file is saved. When I repeat
this scenario I continue to get the checker even though the file already
exists. I do this many, many times during the day, so yes, it is a big issue.

What does the Compatibility Checker find? i.e. what is triggering the
Compatibility Checker? If it's something you could live without then you
might be able to use the WorkbookBeforeSave event to remove the trigger for
the Compatibility Checker.

Do you need to maintain the formatting? If not then you can use a macro to
clear the formats either prior to saving or you could modify the add-in you
downloaded and include clearing the formatting in the WorkbookBeforeSave
event.

That's all greek to me. Can you provide some specifics?

I don't need to keep the formatting.
