Office 2007 upgrade from Office 2000 - Licensing 2 or 3

I'm running MS Office Professional 2000 - not OEM - on desktop and 2
laptops. I want to upgrade to MS Office Professional 2007. Does an
Upgrade version of MS Office Pro 2007 license allow installation of 1
desktop and 2 laptops? One of the laptops is of a large size, while the
2nd laptop is relatively small for easy carrying on research trips. I
have scanned through many posted licensing queries on this board only to
find what appears to be conflicting info on the number of installs allowed.

1. Can I definitely get an upgrade for 2000 to 2007?
2. Can it be installed on 1 desktop and 2 laptops?

the software on one device, along with other rights, all as described below.
2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a
license, you must assign that license to one device. That device is the

separate device.
a. Licensed Device. You may install and use one copy of the software on the
licensed device.
b. Portable Device. You may install another copy on a portable device for
use by the single primary user of the licensed device.
c. Separation of Components. The components of the software are licensed as
a single unit. You may not separate the components and install them on
different devices."

You need 2 licenses to cover your situation.

FWIW I believe your Office 2k licence is actually only for two PC's
Depending on your actual Office 2007 components required Office 2007 H&S
allows for your number of installations, but not the Pro version

Golly, from your reply it appears if I buy an upgrade to Office
Professional 2007 (cost of over $300.00) I can only install it on
***one*** computer!! The worst case scenario I thought would be that I
could only install it twice - like on a desktop and 1 laptop. Why have I
seen posting about 2 installs with the 2007 Education version and 3 with
Home and Student? Gee, 2007 Professional upgrade cost more than $100.00
than those other versions.

How much does a 2nd license cost?

You missunderstand JoAnn's post, Office 2007 pro upgrade allows you to
install it on two devices, for your own use
H&S allows for 3 devices

Dumb dumb me. Boy I misread JoAnn's message. Thank you DL for
straightening me out. On your other message:

You are no doubt right. I had 2K on only a desktop and 1 laptop for 10
years +/- until a month ago. At that time got the small research laptop
that I plan to use for trooping around libraries, etc... When I
installed 2000 (Access part) on the new laptop after having the program
nearly 10 yrs, the question of number of installs didn't even enter my
mind. It installed with no trouble. With your message about only 2 PC
per license on 2K, I will uninstall it tonight before I forget and take
it on the road.

If and when I get 2007, I will install 2007 on desktop and other laptop
and install 2K on the small laptop - really only the Access part for the
dbs I use.

Another dumb question: To get a 2nd license for 2007, do I have to buy
another package or can a 2nd license be purchase by itself for a smaller
price?

License is same price as purchasing the Upgrade version. You are always paying the
fee for the license Susan.

My family just gave me Office Professional 2007 **Upgrade** (they bought
it at Sam's Club for $286) for my birthday last night. A couple or more
of you folks believed it licensed for only 2 computers. On the back of
this packaging/last page of the back cardboard at the bottom in small
print it says:

"*Licensed for noncommercial use on up to three personal computers."

Soooo I am right, aren't I, to assume this package will allow me to
install it on my 3 computers - desktop, regular laptop and a mini laptop?

Ooops, pleaseeeee disregard my posting!!!! I just noticed the asterisk
before that line refers to the chart above it that compares the
different editions of 2007 - the asterisk is for Home and Student.

Posting here means you are not yet sure. What does the star "*" refer back
to? Professional is usually two computers, and Home and Student is usually
three. That said, Professional Plus (a different product than
Professional) that I get from my school allows three.

Nope, "*Licensed for noncommercial use on up to three personal
computers." the "*" means it is the language used for the Home and
Student Version, you can download and read the Use terms for the
Profesional version here.

In other words, you get to install on a Primary device, and a portable
device for the exclusive use by the User of the primary device.
