Office 2007 Upgrade won't recognise previous version

I am having to reinstall Office 2007 Professional, which is an upgrade
version. I have Office 2003 Professional installed already, however, when I
try to install Office 2007 I get the message 'Setup failed to locate a valid
qualifying product on your machine'. I've tried putting the Office 2003 CD
in and I still get this message and I've also tried a full version CD of
Office 2000 with the same result. Please can someone tell me how I can get
Office 2007 to recognise a previous version.
Thanks

1. Run the 2007 Office Setup program.
2. In the User Information dialog box, type the product key in the Product Key boxes, and then click OK.
3. In the Product Compliance Check CD Key dialog box, click OK.
4. In the Drive list, click the CD drive or DVD drive that contains the 2007 Office CD in the Product Compliance Check dialog box.
5. Remove the 2007 Office CD from the CD drive or from the DVD drive. Then, insert the first CD from one of the qualifying products
that are listed on the following Microsoft Web page:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/FX101754511033.aspx

Note: It will take approximately 30 seconds for the CD drive or the DVD drive to recognize the CD that you inserted.

6. In the Product Compliance Check dialog box, click OK.
7. When the 2007 Microsoft Software License Terms appear, remove the CD for the earlier version of Office from the CD drive or from
the DVD drive, and then insert the 2007 Office CD.
8. Click to select the I accept the terms of the License Agreement check box after you read the license terms, and then click Next.
9. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to install 2007 Office.

Carey,

Thanks for your reply. I've tried this with CDs for Office 2000
Professional, full version, Office Visio Professional 2007, Office Project
Standard 2007, Microsoft Works 2000 and with all these I get the same result.

When I run the setup cd for Office Professional 2007, I get a window asking
for the product key and after entering this and clicking Continue I get the
window asking me to locate the earlier version of Microsoft Office. When I
put the qualifying cd in the drive, browse to it and click continue the
window telling me I don't have a qualifying upgradeable product pops up
immediately.

I also have Works 2000, Office Professional 2003 and Office Project 2007
installed so surely it should pick up one of those.

Penny

Hello Penny

I am having similar problems and would appreciate an answer. Some
background of my case:

Outlook keeps crashing
Tried to use repair from control panel, add/remove programs - it says
"product installation is corrupted, reinstall".
If I try and reinstall, I have same issue as you, it comes up with "the path
you have chosen does not have a qualifying upgradeable product".

I have tried office 2003, XP and 200 CDs and even tried installing works
7.0. It neither recognizes the CDs nor the installations.

I found a Knowledge Base article giving the details that Carey gave, but
this does not reflect exactly what I see eg:
Enter the product key and click OK - I only see a continue box
In the Product Compliance Check CD Key box... I don't see anything that
tells me that is what it is called, I get a window that is titled "Locate
your earlier version of Microsoft Office". And again no OK box, just a
continue.

This might seem like pedantry, but it would suggest that what I am seeing is
not what is being described.

At the moment I am seriously regretting the "upgrade" to 2007 and wondering
if I can get a refund for all the copies we bought for our company.

Best Regards

Ashley

Dear Penny:

I see yours was posted in February, and here I am in August with
precisely the same problem, exactly as you described it - and still no
solution ! I wonder if Carey was using a beta version ?

Have you been able to solve this somehow else ?
