Office 2007 vs Office XP

My system is WinHVP SP2, 32 bit, 4g RAM Intel Core2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13 GHz. I
have to admit that I don’t know what the “6400 @ 2.13 GHz” means, but it’s
straight from the Control Panel System page.

I recently purchased and installed Office Standard 2007 on my new computer,
after having used Office 2002 on my old computer for about 7 years. I guess
2007 is a fine office suite, but it’s too much different from Office XP so I
installed Office XP on the new computer without uninstalling Office 2007. I
just figured that I could use XP while continuing to learn 2007. Apparently
that was a mistake. The only thing that really wouldn’t work was Outlook
2007, but there were some other little glitches that were inconvenient, so I
uninstalled Office XP. I had to reinstall Outlook 2007. AFAIK, everything
else is back to normal and works fine.

My question – finally. Is there any way to install both office suites on
the same computer and have both of them work the way they’re supposed to?
Possibly on a different partition? I have a 232g E:\drive that is just
sitting there doing nothing. When I bought the computer, the hard drive was
already partitioned into C, D (a Recovery drive), and E drives. F is a
CD-RW, and G, H, I, J, K and L are USB ports.

I would appreciate any suggestions or guidance.

Thank you.

Uninstall Office 2007. Re-boot. Re-install Office XP. Then install 2007. You
will be given an option to either replace or install in tandem (AFAIK) The
only thing you can't do is to have two copies of Outlook.

Thank you. I guess that explains why Outlook 2007 wouldn't work after I
installed Office XP. I'm going to give it some thought and figure out what
I want to do. Thanks again.

I followed the first 2/3 of your instructions by uninstalling Office 2007
and then installing Office XP. All seems well EXCEPT that Outlook XP
doesn't work. It's there, but for some reason all I can get is two error
messages. First, it says "Unable to open your default email folders. Could
not open the item. Try again." So I clicked on "OK" and I get "Would you
like to open your default file system folder instead?" If I click YES, I
get the following error message: "Unable to start processing services.
Could not open the item. Try again." If I click NO, it shuts down and goes
back to the desktop.

I've tried using the installation procedure to "repair" the installation,
but that seems to do no good. I tried installing only Outlook again, but
that did no good either.

One other bit of information: When I uninstalled Office 2007, the "Program
Files/Microsoft Office" folder was left in place along with several
sub-folders. There are no .EXE files anywhere in there, but there are a
number of .DLLs. I have no idea why that major folder was not removed.
When I installed OfficeXP, I put it in a folder named OfficeXP, so it's in
an entirely different location under the Program Files folder.

I hope I've made myself clear and I'm definitely open for suggestions again.
Please.

Thank you.
