Office 2007 Will Not Install

Attempted installation of Home and Student Retail Copy on XP machine that has
never had Microsoft Office. Worked with Microsoft throughout the day
including download of electronic copy of software and same issues continue.

Machine while at bare minimum of requirements (P4/1.8/400 with 640mb Ram),
according to Microsoft is fine.

What happens is the key is accepted, you get to the Installation Progress
Window and the progress bar doesn't move for up to 10 minutes. When it does
move, things look good for a while... hard drive light activity etc. It then
gets to about 70% onthe progress bar ... MY ESTIMATION OF PROGRESS BAR SINCE
NO PERCENTAGE LISTED ..... and then all stops. No hard drive activity ... no
DVD activity(when trying from DVD) ..... left it like this the last time MSFT
asked me to for over an hour.

OF NOTE, did receive 1704 errors BUT ONLY after killing install via Task
Manager and then rebooting and starting another install .... I answer Yes to
the quesiton posed which seems to roll back previous attempt and then entire
thing starts again.

OH ... a check of hard drive shows Office directory withing Program Files
and 300mb.

**** Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Please clean system, create new windows user account.
Do clean boot and try to install.

For your Information ... the progress bar which gets stuck at abt 70% is
normal, that’s how it works.
and my XP computer with 512 MB ram, Pro 07 took 35 mins to install. and all
work faster, none are slow.
